Week beginning 29th June 2020

Cooking with Chocolate

This week we have been looking at recipes and doing lots of cooking with chocolate.
  • We made Rice Krispie Cakes and Chocolate Brownies.
  • We looked at different ways of melting chocolate and what happened when it cooled again.
  • What do you think makes chocolate melt?
  • What do you think might happen to the chocolate when it cools down?
  • We talked about the ingredients and measured them out, then took turns to mix them in a bowl.
If you would like to make one of our recipes you can find them here:

You will need:

  2. Add the butter, cut in to small pieces, stir until melted

Story of the Week

Our story this week was Jasper’s Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth.
  • What did Jasper do on each day of the week?
  • How tall do you think the beanstalk was at the end?
  • Can you make a beanstalk with blocks that is taller than you?
  • Where did the beanstalk go?
  • What was Jasper looking for at the top of his beanstalk?
  • If you had a beanstalk, what do you think would be at the top?  Can you draw a picture of it?
Picture

Planting seeds

  • We planted our own beans in little pots.
  • We are checking them every day, just like Jasper, to see how tall they will grow.
  • We also planted some cress seeds.
  • Which do you think will grow quickest, the beans or the cress?
Growing cress at home
You will need:
  • Cress seeds
  • Paper cup/plant pot
  • Some Paper towel/tissue
  • Water
What to do:
  1. Scrunch up the paper towel and place in the bottom of the cup
  2. Then add a small amount of water to wet the paper towel
  3. Sprinkle on some cress seeds and place in a warm bright spot, preferably a windowsill.
  4. Check every day to see if anything has started to grow
  5. Remember to keep watering too
Picture
Maybe you can guess how tall the cress will grow or how many days it will take to grow
You could draw a chart too
Have fun!
