School Aims
We aim to :
  • Freely use challenging play to maximize learning potential.
  • Promote learning through the unique setting and a balanced child centred curriculum.
  • Ensure success for every pupil through quality teaching and learning experiences.
  • Support the child’s well being through the provision of an extended day.
  • Support the well being of all stake holders through a well resourced school and a sharing team.
  • Embrace the diversity of the school through involvement in the wider community

Learning through Playing
We aim to give children the best start in life , toencourage them to explore their own interests and develop new skills in a friendly, fun and safe environment. Children can spend extended periods of time on one activity depending on their interest and enthusiasm. Young children learn best by doing, playing and talking. Through well planned play activities in a secure setting children are able to:
  • Explore and investigate new experiences, ideas and feelings
  • Practice skills and develop their ideas
  • Set themselves challenges and learn from their mistakes
  • Think creatively and imaginatively
  • Develop confidence and independence
  • Be alone or alongside others, sharing and co-operating
  • Talk freely with others, sharing their ideas, feelings and experiences.
Our daily programme of free flow play allows the children to get deeply involved for long periods in activities they choose. We plan learning opportunities carefully, both inside and out to build on what children can do, to challenge them and to take account of individual needs and interests.

Partnership with parents
We consider the relationship we have with parents to be vital to the success of every child.
We like to establish relationships with you through  a home visit  and get to know your child before they start. . Staff are always willing to speak to you about concerns you may have.  Diaries are sent from school to home to continue the child's learning journey. We have a termly parent conference to discuss your child’s progress and have many events and days for you to come into school and join in and play with your child.

Supporting all children
We have children who speak many different languages and we provide support to enable them to develop their use of English.
We will work together with parents whose children have additional learning needs to enable them to  make the best progress in all areas.

Attendance

Obviously if your child is really ill she/he should not be brought to school. (If you are not sure, contact the school to ask their advice). Otherwise daily attendance is expected.
You are expected to organise family holidays during school holiday periods. In particular extended holidays are disruptive to your child’s education. Tower Hamlets has advised that holidays and extended leave should normally not be authorised. In very exceptional circumstances discretion may be appropriate, although this will very rarely happen. If you wish to apply for leave you must complete a form available from the school at least 10 days before the proposed date of travel. You may be asked to confirm the date of return with the return tickets before the leave is approved. Where leave is agreed exceptionally, no more than 10 days will normally be agreed. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child returns to school on time. Failure to do so could result in your child losing her/his school place.

Punctuality
It is important that your child arrives and is collected on time; children never want to feel that they are the one left behind. If you are unavoidably detained please phone the school and let us know. If you have a full time place and you are late, please phone us by 10 o’clock so we can provide you with a lunch. If you do not then your child will be unable to stay.
