We read the story of the Chinese New Year with the children and had races in the nursery garden.
On the 3rd of February we had a fantastic stir fry and a taste of jasmine tea to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children were involved in the preparation of the ingredients and had lots of fun in our Chinese Restaurant role play area.
We also made a Chinese Lion together and the children performed a lion dance around the nursery singing a Chinese song.
In the creative area the children were engaged in wood work and made the animals from the Chinese Zodiac.
They learned to use different tools and materials to assemble their creations.
In the Maths area we looked at Chinese numbers and explored measurements using scales, measuring tapes and measuring cups. We also looked at Chinese numbers and role-played in the Chinese restaurant.
In understanding the World we read the story of Jack and the beanstalk and looked at different bean seeds using a digital microscope. We also produced a pictogram of our favourite bean seeds and planted different seeds to see which ones would grow faster.
